google will expand in europe

At the DLD tech conference in Munich, outgoing Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that his company would be hiring over 1,000 fresh staff members in Europe over the coming year, as well as “several hundred in a research and development center in Munich.”

He also said that the new employees would be split equally between developers and sales staff.

At present, Google has just about 5,000 employees between its European, African, and Middle East offices.

“We had a very, very good year and a very strong quarter,” said Schmidt.

“We looked at this year and in particular our prospects for growth in Europe and our businesses internationally are doing well, both our nucleus business as well as our contiguous businesses, our ‘hockey stick’ businesses as we call them,” he added. “It’s all very, very good. We are going to invest in Europe.”.
